MIS is a fully residential school for girls. Each of the five houses is named for a Himalayan peak, led by a housemistress who lives on site, and has its own dining arrangement and house traditions. A girl belongs to her house from her first night, and most girls remain in the same house through their school career.
Kanchenjunga
The oldest house, in the original sandstone block. Quiet, bookish, with a long-running tradition of Sunday poetry readings.
Annapurna
On the eastern slope, looking out across the Doon. Known for its hockey teams and its singing.
Nanda Devi
The largest of the five, with girls from Years 7 through 12. Lively, theatrical, and famously good in the kitchen at midnight.
Trishul
A smaller, senior-only house, opened in 2011. Quiet study floors and a roof terrace girls aren't supposed to sit on but do.
Bandarpunch
Junior house for Years 4 through 6. Warm, watched-over, and run with the kind of routine little girls need and pretend not to.
